April 17th is Palestinian Prisoners Day, a date to remind the public that thousands of Palestinian prisoners are imprisoned in Israeli jails under extreme difficult circumstances, where they are exposed to various forms of torture and inhumane treatment.

Student Prisoners
Over half of the Palestinians arrested by the Israeli forces are students. The Israeli army often launches waves of arrests against university students, particularly first year students simply to collect information on them. Recently eight Birzeit University students and one employee have been arrested by the Israeli army-none of whom have been charged.

> Currently, over 80 An-Najah (the largest University in Palestine) students and six members of staff are locked up in Israeli prisons. Most of whom have not been charged .

> Currently 255 teachers and employees of the Ministry of High Education are locked up in Israeli prisons .

Please read our full pamphlet about the issue: http://www.actionpalestine.org/temp/Palestinian%20Political%20Prisoners.doc

Please join in this campaign and make your voice heard on the issue:

1. Wear black on Thursday 17th April. (Black shirt will do, we are not asking people to dress all in black). And try to talk to be about why you are doing that.

2. Sign the petition on the 10 Downing Street website (UK only)
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/palprisoners/

3. Use the event’s image as your Facebook profile image, on the 17th of April and maybe before and after.

4. Support (at least by attending) the events that are being organised by your local Palestine Solidarity Society on your campus as part of the campaign.

This effort is facilitated by Action Palestine, Palestine societies on UK will be holding a series of actions and events as part of the campaign.

We ask all the other groups and organisations to support this effort about this largely forgotten issue.
